On 23rd of June, the last shipment of steel structures for Chile Quebrada Blanca Fase 2 Project undertaken by USSL was successfully delivered from Gaolan Port in Zhuhai City. It represented another new solid step by USSL in its business extension based on conventional steel structures.
The order of Quebrada Blanca Phase 2 Project (hereinafter referred to as “QB2 Project” ) was awarded by Compañía Minera Teck Quebrada Blanca S.A and the general Contractor for QB2 Project is world-renowned general engineering Contractor-Bechtel.
The site of QB2 Project is located in Tarapacá region of northern Chile at an altitude of 4,400 meters. It is about 240 kilometers southeast of Iquique and 1,500 kilometers from Santiago. After functional operation of the whole QB2 Project, the service life of this mine field will be prolonged for 28 years and the Copper production will be increased to 300000 tons per year.
In recent years, on the basis of consolidating conventional business, USSL accurately grasps marketing opportunity and timely adjusts target market with constant reformation and structure optimization to achieve diversified development. Nowadays, USSL has gradually developed into one of the largest steel structure suppliers in both domestic and abroad markets. Our products have covered offshore wind power, oil & gas & chemical plant, metallic minerals conveyor, refinery, power plants, commercial buildings, fire-protection performance, LNG Tank, materials handling, theme parks and undersea data centers, etc.
Compared with regular steel structures, the accuracy requirement and difficulty degree in Conveyor steel structure fabrication are much higher. As the conveyor for metallic mineral products may reach a length from several kilometers to a few tens of kilometers, high precision must be guaranteed to ensure smooth operation of the whole convey system. As required, the tolerance for distance between two corresponding mounting holes for idler frames shall be within ±0.5mm in both horizontal and vertical direction. The parallelism accuracy of idler frames after erection is required not to exceed 1mm, and the error of perpendicularity for idler axis and convey axis shall be within 0.5mm.
The great production difficulty and stringent requirements of QB2 Project received great attention and high concern from USSL top management. A project team was organized to take full charge of this project under the command of USSL Vice General Manager. With united supports from other Departments, the whole project was finally delivered smoothly with high quality after overcoming difficulties coming from long fabrication period, tight schedule, various types and quantity of structures and strict welding requirement, etc.
*Superior Welding Procedure
The project site in Chile is within earthquake zone, which asks for complete fulfillment in both rigidity and tenacity for steel materials without any deviation on minimum and maximum requirements despite only minimum requirement is demand to be met for regular steel structure project. Welding of Non-standard profiles is another challenge to our technical team. Due to the various types and small dimension , it was rather difficult to prevent built-up profiles from deformation after welding.In spite of these, the technical team together with fabrication team made utmost efforts to prepare and optimize welding procedures to minimize deformation.
**Specialized Jig for Fit-up and Welding
Traditional welding technique is not enough to meet the high accuracy requirement for conveyor frame structures. The difficulty of assembly and welding for idler frame lied in the guarantee of levelness and perpendicularity of side roller bracket. Therefore,USSL designed and manufactured specialized jig for fit-up and welding. It consisted of main frame, roller bracket support beam, side adjust device and horizontal adjust device. It is safe and reliable.Meanwhile, it can also improve work efficiency and reduced labor intensity of workers to ensure the accuracy of the roller bracket.
*3D-Scanning Detection
The geographical location of mine field results in disadvantageous transportation, which will consequently bring in big problem once any fabrication error is detected at site.To avoid any site problem, in addition to ensure accuracy during fabrication process, USSL applies 3D-Scan technology to check the accuracy of every small steel module. After the structure was set on a special assembly jig, an advanced 3D Scanner will perform scan in all directions to check the dimension and position. The high detection accuracy of 0.01mm provided solid guarantee on fabrication accuracy to accelerate smooth site erection.
